SCM software application: globalization thinking

the challenge to supply chain management software (SCM) suppliers is to break the limitations of thinking

the supply chain management (SCM) software application market finally stabilized in 2003. The first graphene touch screen will be listed in 35 years, but manufacturers are still cautious about software investment. AMR Research Institute predicts that the SCM market will grow again from 2004, and the compound annual growth rate will maintain a 5% growth rate in the next five years

the market is in a dilemma. According to the survey of manufacturing executives, 91% of them think SCM is "very important" or "critical" to the success of the company, more than half of them say their company has no strategy at all, and only 2% of them think their supply chain is "excellent"

many basic principles of supply chain management are changing dramatically. The globalization of the market has accelerated the demand for supply chain visibility and process standardization. Similarly, new technologies like RFID can change our view of supply chain transactions when the wear of leaf springs exceeds 10%, and create new levels of visibility and performance

in order to understand this, AMR spent two years examining the performance of cross industry supply chain. Research shows some insightful views: accurate demand forecasting can lead to higher response rates and reduce costs. The companies that do the best in demand forecasting reduce inventory by 15% on average, increase the fulfillment of correct orders by 17%, shorten the cash cycle by 35%, and produce product out of stock, which is only one tenth of that of competitors. However, today's SCM implementation can rarely maintain such performance at the overall level. This may indicate the new demand direction of SCM, and even a new SCM application suite may appear

to support global business processes, SCM application suite may need to include the following:

unit level demand visibility: RFID, visibility of sales terminal system and B2C e-commerce are buzzwords, but all these describe the most detailed requirements. For some systems, this may not be different from barcode, but for other systems, this may be a necessary element to expand demand

demand management: tools that support sales and operation planning, forecasting, pricing and revenue optimization, and promotion management enhance the ability to manage the balance of supply and demand by approaching demand variability. Such a tool is necessary to withstand the large amount of data required from the unit layer

new product development and release support: current SCM products are good at dealing with stable demand conditions, rather than the sudden rise and fall of product demand. Supply chain design means defining products, supplies and services, and then outputting and printing various required experimental curves and experimental report networks in order to improve reaction speed, facilitate reuse and maintain the consistency of the supply chain

supply chain execution dashboard: benchmark and performance measurement methods describe the final business judgment expression that drives supply chain decisions. What data should be moved to the dashboard and how to distinguish by roles are all areas in which SCM suppliers can demonstrate technology, including decision-making of problems and how to minimize the return time of customers' investment

the next generation supply chain has been formed for some time. After heated discussion, economists and forecasters believe that we are in the early stage of the scientific and technological revolution. If the scientific and technological revolution can work, we will see an unprecedented period of prosperity
